AGRICULTURE AND FOOD

Bioplatforms is enabling innovation in Australia’s agriculture and food sectors by leveraging integrated ‘omics data and infrastructure to enhance productivity, resilience, and sustainability across the nation’s primary industries.

OUR APPROACH

Bioplatforms is committed to the creation of open access data for Australia’s primary and food production industries. By providing state-of-the-art facilities and infrastructure in genomics, proteomics, metabolomics, and synthetic biology, Bioplatforms enables researchers and stakeholders to collaboratively explore biological data. Our approach fosters innovation and knowledge sharing, leading to breakthroughs in crop breeding, plant resilience, livestock management, food safety, and sustainability practices. With access to critical data assets, Bioplatforms enables Australian industry leaders and researchers to make data-informed decisions that drive efficiency, resilience, and regional competitiveness of the Australian agricultural and primary industries.

DATA RESOURCES

While each initiative establishes its own data and methods to meet community and research needs, they generally focus on the following outcome areas:

Reference Genomes

Sequencing, assembly and annotation of long-read and short-read genomes, including transcriptomes for annotation.

Population Genomics

Sequencing and compilation of population genetics data over time and space for comparative and functional analysis.

Phylogenomics

Combining evolutionary biology and genomics to study the genetic relationships between species.

Metagenomics

Sequencing of genetic material from environmental samples for diversity and functions of microbes and eDNA signals.

Other 'omics

Creation of supporting functional (metabolomic and proteomic) resources to drive behavioural analyses.

BIOPLATFORMS INITIATIVES

The below Initiatives are national collaborative projects that are developed alongside research and industry communities to enable innovative research.
To access data resources from these programs, select the desired initiative below or visit the Bioplatforms Data Portal.

PARTNERSHIPS

Our collaborations extend across a wide range of nationally significant research initiatives, including Australian Research Council (ARC) Centres of Excellence, ARC Industry Transformation Research Hubs, ARC Training Centres, Medical Research Futures Fund (MRFF) support research, the National Health and Medical Research Council (NHMRC) supported research, Cooperative Research Centres (CRC), and National Environmental Science Program Hubs (NESP). These partnerships drive transformative research that advances fundamental scientific knowledge, while facilitating research translation and innovation across both government and industry-funded programs.
