ABOUT

Alertness CRC

The Cooperative Research Centre (CRC) for Alertness Safety and Productivity recognises the critical importance of sleep for human functioning and overall wellbeing. However, in today’s 24-hour society, sleep is often neglected due to factors like shift work, family obligations, and the increasing prevalence of sleep disorders.

Poor alertness resulting from sleep deprivation contributes to a significant number of workplace injuries and road crashes each year. Impaired alertness affects key brain functions such as reaction time, decision-making, information processing, and attention maintenance, leading to preventable accidents and injuries.

The Alertness CRC brings together expertise, advanced technologies, and collaborative pathways from industry, government, and university sectors to address sleep loss, impaired alertness, and sleep disorders. By promoting evidence-based changes in behaviour, work practices, policies, legislation, and community responses to the 24/7 lifestyle, the Alertness CRC aims to usher in a new era in alertness management.
