ABOUT

ARC Research Hub for Medicinal Agriculture

The ARC Research Hub for Medicinal Agriculture (ARC MedAg Hub) is a world-class initiative established in 2018, focused on transforming Australia’s medicinal agriculture industry. The Hub is led by La Trobe University and brings together exceptional research capabilities from agriculture, biomedical sciences, and industry.

The Hub’s research focuses on two main areas: improving the profitability and sustainability of medicinal agriculture, and adding value for pharmaceutical manufacturers and end-users. This involves enhancing agronomy, cultivation practices, and medicinal plant germplasm to increase yields and active compounds in plants, as well as developing novel synthesis and extraction technologies, bioprospecting new plant-derived compounds, and applying high-throughput analysis techniques. This initiative will also contribute to job growth, improved health outcomes, and workforce development, ensuring that Australia remains at the forefront of agribiotech innovation.

The ARC MedAg Hub’s work will position Australia as a leading global supplier of plant-based medicinal products, with a focus on sustainability, innovation, and export readiness. The Hub’s state-of-the-art research infrastructure includes advanced phenotyping, genomics, proteomics, metabolomics, and bioinformatics platforms, enabling cutting-edge scientific exploration.
