ABOUT

Australian genome health alliance

The NHMRC Australian Genome Health Alliance, supported by Bioplatforms Australia since 2020, unites over 50 partner organisations dedicated to integrating genomic medicine into healthcare nationwide. Our collaboration has provided essential research infrastructure to drive this critical national agenda forward.

The program expedites diagnosis, facilitates early intervention, and broadens access to treatment for individuals with genetic disorders. Through our research efforts, we seek to translate genomic technology into clinical practice, ultimately benefiting patients and their families.

Since its inception in 2014, the Alliance has grown to include organisations from across Australia and overseas, including clinical genetics services, research institutes, pathology laboratories, hospitals, universities, professional bodies, and patient advocacy groups.

In 2015, the AGHA received a $25 million grant from the NHMRC’s Targeted Call for Research into Preparing Australia for the Genomics Revolution in Healthcare. Over the five-year duration of this grant, the AGHA positioned Australia as a global leader in genomic medicine, offering evidence-based policy advice to government bodies, hospitals, and healthcare providers. Our goal is to seamlessly integrate genomic technology into our healthcare system for the benefit of all Australians.
