ABOUT

Australian Functional Genomics Network

The Australian Functional Genomics Network (AFGN) is a leading initiative dedicated to advancing functional genomics and understanding rare diseases through collaboration between clinical geneticists and research scientists. The network aims to improve patient outcomes and quality of life by integrating cutting-edge genomic research with clinical management.

Funded by the Medical Research Future Fund, AFGN provides $5 million in catalyst funding for functional genomics studies from 2021 to 2026 and invites proposals from research teams and organisations, including rare disease foundations.

As part of an international network including Canada, Europe, and Japan, AFGN is connected through the Researcher Registry infrastructure developed by the Rare Disease Model & Mechanisms Network (RDMM-Canada), enhancing global research collaboration and the potential for clinical gene discoveries. Opportunities for involvement are available for those interested in contributing to advancements in this field.
