– ABOUT
Zero Childhood Cancer
The Zero Childhood Cancer Program (ZERO) is a world-leading precision medicine initiative transforming childhood cancer care in Australia. Launched in 2015 with a pilot study in New South Wales, ZERO developed an integrated personalised medicine pipeline, leading to the nation’s first precision medicine trial in 2017. This trial focused on high-risk cancers with less than a 30% survival rate and delivered remarkable results, saving lives and improving outcomes.
Supported by the Australian Government’s Medical Research Future Fund and the Minderoo Foundation, ZERO has expanded to offer personalised care to all children and adolescents diagnosed with cancer in Australia as of 2023. Genomic analyses conducted at diagnosis guide clinicians in refining diagnoses and tailoring treatment strategies.
ZERO uses advanced technologies like robotic drug testing, functional genomics, and preclinical modelling to analyse tumours and guide tailored treatment recommendations. By incorporating innovations such as liquid biopsies and advanced data analytics, ZERO continually improves outcomes and deepens understanding of childhood cancer, offering hope and better futures for children.
